Important Information On Renting the Purple Pelican

Please Read Carefully

Thank you for vacationing with us on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. General information concerning our rental policies is include below for your convenience. We want you to have a great vacation.  Although we have a "Rent at your Own Risk" policy, we expect you will have a happy and safe visit to the Outer Banks.

 

Overview:

The Purple Pelican is a private "NO SMOKING" home which, from time to time, may be offered for guest rental.  We want to have all our guest enjoy our home, as we do.  We pride ourselves on the workmanship and quality of our home, and "the extra steps" we have taken to ensure you have a safe and pleasant stay.

Rental of the Purple Pelican is "rent at your own risk". All renters must agree, in writing, to release the owners of the Purple Pelican from all liabilities for any and all circumstances which may arrise, including but not limited to owner neglect,  renter neglect, harm do to misuse of property, drowning, weather, and all other such circumstances that arise. 

We ask that you treat our home and all personal property with tender loving care.  If you have children in your group, please do not allow them to jump on the furniture or beds or sit on the furniture with wet bathing suits.  When using the pool and hot tub, please be sure to drip dry before entering the house.

To make your stay memorable and comfortable, we have furnished our home with the highest quality furniture and upgraded appliances, including many high end small  appliances.  Please treat them with care and consideration.  We have also furnished a DVD changer loaded with DVDs for you to use during your stay.  see "AMENITIES" .

In addition, we have graciously equipped our home with quality cleaning products for the counters, sink, cabinets, and stainless steel appliances.  These cleaning products are located under the sink in the kitchen. Please use only these products when cleaning.

"NO SMOKING" POLICY

The Purple Pelican is a "NO SMOKING" home. NO SMOKING is allowed within the Purple Pelican.  If you do need to smoke, please go outside, and use a shell or your own ash tray for butts.  Do not use the ground to discard cigarette butts.  Please discard butts appropriately.

RESERVATIONS:

EARLY RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED.

RESERVATION PERIOD:

Purple Pelican may be reserved for a minimum of one (1) week, Saturday to Saturday. Partial week reservations can be made no sooner than the Monday prior to your check-in date. All partial week rentals require an additional cleaning fee, as well as hot tub and pool fees, if applicable.  Linen fees may apply to all rentals. ( please see bed linen and towel policy below.)

AVAILABLITY:

Please check the availability caledar to ensure the date you require is available. 

INITIAL PAYMENT:

A payment of one half (50%) of the rent, plus a $150.00 administrative fee, plus the signed Reservation Rental Agreement is required to confirm your reservation. Home will be held no longer than seven (7) days after your reservation request to allow the required payment to reach us. If payments are not received within seven days, reservations will be cancelled without notice. Payments may be made anytime by cash, money order, cashier's check, travelers check, or certified check. Personal checks are accepted only if you are paying more than thirty (30) days in advance of check-in.

RENTAL AGREEMENTS:

Initial payments must be accompanied by a completed and signed Reservation and Rental Agreement. One can be found in the brochure or on our Website. No reservation is confirmed until we receive a rental agreement completed and signed by you.

FINAL PAYMENT:

Final Payment of the rent, including a state tax, county lodging tax, and the security deposit (where applicable) is due no less than thirty (30) days prior to your check-in date. If a reservation is made within thirty (30) days before check-in, all payments are due within seven days of the request but in no case later than check-in. No personal checks will be accepted for the balance due on payments made within thirty (30) days of check-in.

CHECK-IN:

Check-in is between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm at The Purple Pelican. If you plan to arrive after 5:00 pm, call to coordinate your check-in.  In extreme situations, check-in time may need to be extended due to circumstances beyond our control.

PHONE PAYMENTS:

Prices quoted in the brochure and on our Website are for cash payments made in person or by mail. If you would like to pay by phone, a non-refundable fee of 2.5 % to accommodate this convenience will be included as an additional charge

TAXES:

North Carolina sales tax and county occupancy tax are due with your final payment. Currently North Carolina sales tax is 7%. The existing occupancy tax rate for Currituck County is 4%. Your rent amount is subject to both sales and occupancy taxes. All other fees are subject to sales tax only. TAX RATES MAY CHANGE AT ANYTIME.

SECURITY DEPOSITS:

A security deposit is required with all reservations. To avoid responsibility for damage that occurred before your arrival, you should immediately report it when you check-in. The security deposit can be used to repair damage or special cleaning required as a result of your stay. The unit will be inspected after your checkout and the deposit returned (less any allowable deductions) within 45 days from the date of departure.

BED LINENS AND TOWELS:

The Purple Pelican is a private home  Like most of the rental homes in the Outer Banks, it does not come with bed linens or towels. If you require linens, you may contact a linen rental company to supply these items.  Or, we will take care of the rental of linen for you at an additonal fee based on the number of people staying in the unit.  The linen company requires a two week minimum advance notice.   Please call for more information if you are interested in obtaining linens directly from us.

OCCUPANCY:

No one under the age of eight ( 8 ) is allowed in The Purple Pelican except by pre-approval by The Purple Pelican.  

The local county health department generally permits two occupants per bedroom. We will not allow overcrowding of the home. No RV's or campers may be used or parked on the premises.  Currituck County does not allow street parking. 

PARKING:

Park in driveway or in carports only.  NO PARKING  on grassy or sandy areas. Steet parking is not allowed in Currituck County

NO GROUPS - NO HOUSE PARTIES:

Home is not rented to groups. NO SORORITIES, FRATERNITIES, GRADUATION GROUPS, CHAPERONED OR UNCHAPERONED GROUPS ARE ALLOWED. If a group misrepresents itself as a qualified tenant, we reserve the right to refuse occupancy or have the premises vacated. All fees paid by said group will be forfeited.

AMENITIES:

To make your stay more enjoyable, we have equipped The Purple Pelican with a Home Theatre System, including both a DVD changer and single DVD unit.  You are welcome to bring your own DVDs for use in the SINGLE DVD unit only.  The DVD changer is loaded with approcimately 150 movies of varied types and styles.  DO NOT TOUCH or REMOVE any of the DVD in the changer or the changer itself.  All components are accessed through a special remote controlled box.  Instructions are located in a pamphlet provided within the house.

ELEVATOR:

The Purple Pelican is handicap friendly. Typical rental DOES NOT include ue of the elevator. We will provide access for our guests with mobility and special needs only.  Please contact us to discuss this option.

GRILLING:

Outdoor grilling is permitted only on concrete or open areas away from the house. Grilling on decks is prohibited.  For your convenience, we have provided a Propane gas grill, including the propane. Should the tank become empty during your stay, you may 1) Bring the Old tank to WINKS and get another full tank ( about $15.00) or 2) Advise us at your departure so that we can replace it for the next guest.  The gas grill, as with all other aspects of the Purple Pelican, is to be used at your own risk.

SWIMMING POOLS & HOT TUBS:

For the protection of our guests, no children under the age of 8 are allowed at The Purple Pelican. You must be at least 8 years of age to use the pool, and 18 to use the hot tub. Please observe and respect posted Pool and Spa rules.

Swimming pools and hot tubs will be cleaned on the day of arrival and will be checked for chemical levels.  If a mid-week cleaning is required due to your use, the cost will be charged to you. 

The rear door of the Purple Pelican is equipped with a pool alarm.  The alarm will sound each time the rear door is opened, unless the bypass is pressed each time.

No running or diving allowed in the pool area. 

 Violation of these rules may result in immediate eviction without refund.

BEACH PARKING, Beach Access, Refuse Removal, etc.

A parking pass and two beach passes are located on the counter in the kitchen of the Purple Pelican.  Passes are required, per family, for access to the community pools.  A copy of the Viillages of Ocean Hill Association rules, which details refuse removal, parking considerations, etc.  is located in the house as well.  Please leave all passes and Association documents in the house on day of departure. 

 Fitness Center access and use is on a fee only basis.  Please inquire at the Club House.

 UTILITIES:

NO UTILITIES ARE GUARANTEED! Public utilities are beyond our control. No refunds will be given because of failure of power, CATV, water, telephone, etc., not caused by the Purple Pelican..

TELEPHONES:

You should charge any long distance calls to the number you call (collect), your calling card or your home phone.  The Purple Pelican does not offer long distance services.  Cell phone serivce on the Outer Banks is better for some carriers than others.  We have found that Verizon Mobile coverage is available in most  parts of the Outer Banks and Sprint and others are more widely available in the Southern Outer Banks ( Nags Head ).

FURNISHINGS:

The Purple Pelican is a privately owned home. It is equipped with housekeeping items such as furniture, kitchen appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. The Purple Pelican is furnished according to our individual taste. You cannot rearrange furniture or take deck furniture to the beach. Bedspreads, pillows and blankets are provided.

PETS: NO PETS ALLOWED!

 "NO PETS" mean ABSOLUTELY NO PETS!

Tenants bringing pets will be required to leave without refund.

CLEANING:

You are expected to use the unit with care and leave it undamaged, clean, and ready for the next arrival. When you check-out make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked, the thermostat is set at 60 degrees in Winter or 80 degrees in Summer, and the lights are turned off. The following must also be completed: 1) Wash and put away all dishes; 2) Remove all food and trash from home; 3) Place trash in a proper receptacle and roll carts to the edge of the driveway; 4) Wipe appliances, counters, etc. clean of excess spills; 5) Sweep carpets and floors; 6) Make all beds, and 7) Properly arrange all furniture. Failure to complete these requirements could result in a reduction of your security deposit refund and/or additional billing.

REFUNDS OR REBATES:

NO AMENITIES ARE GUARANTEED! There will be NO refunds because of the malfunction of the contents of any of the units. We try to keep contents in EXCELLENTworking order and any problems will be addressed as quickly as possible. Every effort has been made to provide accurate information about your unit before you arrive but we cannot be responsible for printing errors or owner changes. There will be no refunds due to inclement weather, including hurricanes. 

DEPARTURE:

You must vacate your unit on the last day of your stay by 10:00 am. Rental items should be returned to their appropriate company. Keys should be left on the kitchen counter in the unit. Once again, the unit should be left clean. You should leave the unit NO LATER THAN 10:00 AM.

ITEMS LEFT IN UNITS:

We can not be responsible for any personal items left in your unit.

If after check-out you request us to search the unit for a forgotten item, if the item is found we will return the item by mail C.O.D. with a $20.00 service charge .

 Items found and not requested to be returned within 30 days after departure will be discarded.
